The
South Boston Urologic Clinic is a 10,000-square-foot urologic and
dialysis clinic in South Boston, Virginia. It features a 21-chair
dialysis treatment room, eight urologic exam rooms, two X-ray rooms,
and a procedure room. An emphasis on efficient pedestrian circulation
and maximizing natural light in as many rooms as possible were some
of the main concerns for the design of the facility.
Exterior
Design

Located
between two "Williamsburg" style state buildings,
the owner opted for a more unique and identifiable design.
The building is suituated such that the patient parking is
located in the front with the staff parking and deliveries
located to rear of the building.

Circulation
 |
One
of the most crucial design factors of any building is the manner
in which people move about and use the space which they occupy.
Spaces should allow for the activities they are designed for
and take into consideration neighboring activities. |
Entrance
Canopy
 |
The entrance
canopy provides a covered drop off and sidewalk to protect
the patients from the elements. Built-in benches and a "peace
garden" were added to create a sheltered outdoor "waiting
room".
